ISF matches federal innovation funding dollars for projects from Saskatchewan’s academic and research institutes to promote research capacity and excellence in the province.

- Eligible Funding: Funding allocations from the ISF are contingent on the requirements of the specific federal program, contributions from other participating partners and overall ISF budget availability

- Research project at Saskatchewan-based post-secondary institutions, including universities, colleges, polytechnics or research institute
- Research project has received approval and funding from national organization
Overview
ISF plays a vital role in elevating Saskatchewan’s research and innovation leadership by identifying high-impact projects at the province’s post-secondary institutions and research institutes. Research projects are selected based on their potential to drive scientific breakthroughs across diverse sectors from nuclear energy to life sciences, enhance Saskatchewan’s research capacity and address critical global challenges such as clean energy, food security and advanced computing.
ISF is designed to
- Promote research excellence at our post-secondary institutions and associated non-profit research institutes
- Promote research & development partnerships among academia, government and industry
- Leverage federal research funding to ensure Saskatchewan institutions are competitive in the national research landscape
- Increase capacity to attract and retain top scientists and researchers in Saskatchewan
